Tomás, Zora’s brother, always thought his sister was a little bit touched in the head for taking in that kid. She had no idea whose kid he was, and despite the fact that the family believed he was a pure blood, Tomás still had reservations about that. Spells could be fooled, the child could’ve had or still has invisible protective charms about him. Who knew what the child was really about? Besides, if he was really a pureblood somebody would have claimed him by now, no?
Since Zora’s return from Egypt, Tomas found Jeremiah began hanging out more and more around his uncle which thoroughly annoyed him at first. However, as time went by, Tomás started to accept him. And as he accepted him, he slowly grew to like the child somewhat and this led Thomas to slowly realize what wasted potential Jeremiah was and that he could teach the boy some things that were important to know; things that his sister would never teach Jeremiah because in his opinion, she was a self-righteous, self-absorbed witch who cared little for anyone else’s opinions but her own.
Entering the conservatory, Tomás saw Jeremiah sitting on the floor putting some contraption together. Glancing around, he started, “Hey, Jeremy. My sister anywhere around?”
Looking up from his project to his uncle, Jeremiah shook his head, “Nope, she went out with Celeste a few hours ago. They are at the library or something.” He explained as he glued a wing on his bat kite.
“Really?” Tomás remarked with fake disappointment, “I was hoping to talk to her. Oh, well, it can wait.” He said thinking that this was the perfect moment to test the waters with Jeremiah, now that Zoraida and Celeste weren’t around.
“So, Jeremiah…” Tomás remarked in a friendly tone, “Heard you start school soon? Any idea which house you want to be sorted into?” he asked as he continued to smile at his adopted nephew.
“Yup, next week.” Jeremiah replied not looking up from his bat kite, “Slytherin.” He added simply as he added more glue to the wing.
“Slytherin?” Tomás stated, a little taken aback by the child’s answer. Maybe his sister hadn’t filled his mind with fluffy bunnies and other stuff and there was hope for Jeremiah after all. “Great house.” Tomás added with a smile, this time genuine. “I went there. They are the best.”
“Yup, I think so too.” Jeremiah agreed as he glanced up at his uncle curiously, saw him regarding him intently and began wondering why his uncle was being so chatty with him today.
"Well, I should be off..." Tomás declared thinking that he needed a plan on how to proceed now that he guessed that Jeremiah seemed to be at least somewhat open to "alternative views" on wizarding ways. Also, Tomás needed to make sure his sister didn't get wind of what he was up to because Tomás knew that Zora would probably, and quite literally, hex him from Wales to eternity if she ever found out.
